Nvidia announces the Shield, the world’s first 4K Android TV Console

Nvidia have announced the details of their first living-room entertainment device, the new Shield Android TV console.

Powered by “the performance and efficiency of the revolutionary new NVIDIA Tegra® X1 processor”, along with several Nvidia supercomputers in the cloud, the Shield offers the ultimate entertainment experience.

Through the revelation of the Grid+, an enhanced version of Nvidia’s cloud service that supports game streams, users are able to watch movies and videos in stunning 4K definition, while gameplay is available in true 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second.

In addition to this, Nvidia also announced their plans to implement a Grid subscription service, presenting users with access to 50 games, including Batman: Arkham Origins, Grid 2, Metro: Last Light Redux, Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3.

The console is set to retail at $199 and will be sold with the Shield controller. Currently, within North America, the release date is scheduled to be in May, however, United Kingdom residents will reportedly have to wait to the second half of the year before they are able to get their hands on the device.
