Borderlands Live-Action Movie Adaptation

The script was written by Emmy winner Craig Mazin, best known for his work on HBO’s Chernobyl. Mazin is also serving as showrunner on the upcoming TV adaptation of The Last of Us.

“I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands, and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio,” Roth said in a statement.

“I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate — I feel like we have grown up together, and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition.”

Borderlands Movie Synopsis

Check out the movie's synopsis below:

Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett teams up with Kevin Hart in director Eli Roth’s Borderlands. Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous treasure hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramirez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B.
She forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland (Hart), once a highly respected soldier, but now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistently wiseass robot.
These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to Borderlands.

Borderlands Movie Cast

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cate Blanchett will play the leading role in Roth’s take on Borderlands.

“Blanchett will play Lilith, a siren and legendary thief equipped with magical skills,” the outlet writes. “The movie reunites the actress with Roth after she starred alongside Jack Black in 2018’s The House with a Clock in Its Walls.”

Kevin Hart has also joined the movie, and will play Roland.

“Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland,” director Eli Roth said.

Finally, we now know that Jack Black will play ClapTrap.
