Best PS5 monitor 2023: Our top picks for gaming

best ps5 monitor

When it comes to finding the best monitor for PS5, there are a ton of options to pick from.

The PS5 is more common these days but, upon release, the options for monitors were fairly slim. Many opted for 60hz, 4K displays with low response times, until they could get their hands on the anticipated HDMI 2.1 monitors (which are now becoming more abundant).

That being said, people opt for a PS5 in order to experience different types of gaming. Many who use it for reflex-based shooters like Warzone may go for lower resolution and higher refresh rates. Meanwhile, others who want to experience next-gen graphics may lean towards the larger, 4K displays with a bit of compromise on speed.

We've included a monitors for PS5 that are tailored to all budgets and uses, from impressive TV-like displays like the Gigabyte AORUS FV43U to monitors designed for more competitive gaming, like the ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A. With the support for 1440p monitors, you get an even wider array of choices.

What we haven't included is any QHD monitors, any of the best (and rare) 8K monitors, or some of the best ultrawide options, as it is unclear whether it will ever fully support ultrawide and when the PS5 will support 8K.

Here are just some of our choices for the best monitors for PS5. We have also added upcoming monitors in a separate list below, so you can keep an eye out for the new releases.

Let's dive in.

The Gigabyte AORUS FV43U is a bit of a beast on paper and boasts some impressive specs that make it a strong consideration for pairing with your PS5.

HDMI 2.1 monitors are still somewhat new to the scene and therefore can tip the scales a little when it comes to price, however, monitors like these are tailor-made for gaming, so they can be worth the premium.

This monitor supports 4K at 120Hz, alongside 10-bit Colour, 97% DCI-P3, and HDR1000 which will help you to get the most you can out of the console. To put that into perspective, many of the best gaming monitors can only offer Display HDR 400, so expect stunning visuals on this display.

Design-speaking, it's a futuristic statement piece if we ever saw one, and whether you choose to go with the built-in stand or use one of the best monitor arms you can find, we think this display will look seriously epic.

What type of gamers is this for though? We'd see anyone playing more cinematic games like Horizon or God of War Ragnarök. We'd say this would even make for a pretty good monitor for FIFA as well. For competitive gaming though, you'll want to go for a smaller screen... if you want to win, that is!

If you're after an OLED variation of this (that's even bigger), check out the Gigabyte AORUS FO48U, too.

Or if you're after an even larger display, you may want to check out the Gigabyte S55U which boasts a huge 54.6-inch screen! Don't discount this monitor though as it's definitely one of the best 43-inch monitors we've come across.

For gamers who also want to utilise this on PC, you'll be pleased to find that there's also support for 4K at 240Hz, which is a world first, at least for an officially-released monitor, as TCL unveiled a 4K 240Hz prototype back in November 2021.

Most pertinently though, the panel that this monitor uses is rather impressive, given it features a Quantum Mini LED backlight with 1196 dimming zones.

This should allow for 2000 nits of total brightness and some rather sharp images, especially with a 1,000,000: 1 contrast ratio.

In addition, the Odyssey Neo G8 also features 1000R curvature for added immersion, and it's on this quality in particular that some argue curved monitors are better for gaming.

This should also help to make this Samsung offering one of the best curved monitors for gaming when it releases fully. Alongside this 240Hz version, Samsung is also releasing it with a 165Hz refresh rate, but with an otherwise identical spec sheet.

The monitor is currently available for purchase directly from Samsung's website in the US and in the UK.

Frequently asked questions about PS5 monitors

Here, we'll do our best to answer those questions which crop up time and time again. Here's everything you need to know before you make your selection.

What kind of monitor is best for PS5?

If we had to throw our opinion into the mix, we'd say an HDMI 2.1 monitor or something capable of allowing you to play select titles at 120hz and 4K.

You can get these for under $1000 in some cases, if you don't mind the display being smaller, but they will give you monitor-standard low latency which we think has the edge over TVs

Read More: Do you need HDMI 2.1 for 120Hz gaming?

The alternative would probably be a 4K, 60hz display, but we'd recommend making sure it features a low response time.

For 1080p, head for a 120hz refresh rate and above, and try to grab yourself an IPS display to make the most out of colour and viewing angles.

It may sound obvious, but for PS5 you'll want to ensure you get a gaming monitor, as there are big differences between regular and gaming monitors when it comes to latency, response times, and refresh rates.

While some of the best monitors for working from home, for example, focus on being suitable for multitasking, accuracy, and so on, gaming monitors are tailored toward giving you the edge against your competition.

Should I get a 144hz monitor for PS5?

While the PS5 doesn't support 144hz, it will still work on a monitor which has this refresh rate.

You're essentially getting more Hz than you actually need, but if you have a PC and want to connect it via the DisplayPort, a 144hz monitor gives you that option. Being able to facilitate multiple systems is not something to be scoffed at, but equally, it will come down to what platform you choose to game on.

It is a good decision either way, and depending on your budget you should call it as you see it!

Should I buy a monitor for PS5?

There's a debate about whether to buy a TV over a monitor, but really it comes down to what other usages you want out of your chosen device.

For TVs, they're great in living rooms for movie nights and streaming. Monitors can be doubled up as productivity setups, creating hybrid gaming / workspaces.

Read More: Are gaming monitors worth it?

Generally speaking, if you're after lower input lag, a monitor is the way to go, but this is only really important for fast-paced gaming.

If you're a fan of story-driven, slower-paced experiences, then a good 120hz TV should do you fine. Alternatively, you could opt for something like a top ultrawide monitor if you're looking for the performance and speed of a monitor with a tv more comparable to a TV.

Are gaming monitors good for PS5?

We'd say they are, especially as gaming monitors are now commonly used with consoles, with many tailored to them specifically.

As we've mentioned, gaming monitors have lower input lag, so if you want a more responsive experience and have something that is optimally sized for game genres such as first-person shooters, then you'll want to go for one.

You don't need one, but it is recommended to get the maximum out of the console, however, they can come at quite a steep price tag.

Do you need an HDMI 2.1 monitor for PS5?

A good alternative could be going for one of the best TVs for PS5, which should offer 120Hz gaming at 4K, but you'll find that they actually come in at around the same cost, and they can offer bigger screens for the same money as an HDMI 2.1 monitor.

Is 1440p equal to 4K?

It's not, unfortunately, so if you've come across any monitors you're considering for PS5 that are 1440p we'd say look at either 1080p or 4K displays to match the PS5's output.

Is it worth getting a 1440p monitor for PS5?

With the PS5 now supporting 1440p, it's now possible to choose between your cheaper 2k monitor options, or scale up to a fully UHD 4k resolution. Seen as the middle option between 1080p and 4k, a 1440p monitor can be a great choice if you are looking to upscale your set-up but don't want to break the bank on a 4k.
