SNK is running a King of Fighters 15 Open Beta Test through PlayStation consoles in December, letting players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 test out the online play, prior to its release in 2022.

December 10, 2021 - SNK has released a new trailer for King of Fighters 15's second open beta. Like before, that'll be for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms, so there's still no Steam beta this time around. For players who downloaded the first King of Fighters 15 open beta client, a new patch is required for this second beta test.
November 17, 2021 - As seen on official SNK Twitter, the developers have officially confirmed that the King of Fighters 15 can now be pre-loaded on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The open beta has 8 characters on release and is around 11GB in full file size.
When Is the King of Fighters 15 Open Beta?
Update: December 10, 2021 - For the second open beta, the servers will open and close up on:
- PST: December 17. 2021 19:00 - December 20, 2021 6:59
- CET: December 18, 2021 4:00 - December 20, 2021 15:59
As this is another open beta test, the developers confirmed that crossplay, online matchmaking, room match mode, offline versus mode, training mode, and tutorial mode will be playable in this build.
SNK previously confirmed they've implemented rollback netcode in King of Fighters 15, similar to other fighting games. That offers more stable online play, encouraging players to challenge each other more often. King of Fighters 15's Open Beta could be a way to stress test the game for online play, ensuring the netcode feel great for players.
King of Fighters 15 Open Beta Playable Characters
December 10, 2021 - The second open beta will have a new set of playable characters that haven't been playable in the first one. These second open beta characters will be:
- Antonov
- Blue Mary
- Isla
- K'
- Krohnen
- Meitenkun
- Ryo Sakazaki
- Terry Bogard
Characters from the first open beta will not be playable in this build of the game. In this roster, all of these characters belong to different teams in King of Fighters 15.
November 2021: So far, SNK's confirmed that only eight characters will be playable:
- Kyo Kusanagi
- Chizuru Kagura
- Iori Yagami
- Shun-ei
- Chris,
- Shermie
- Yashiro Nanakase
- Dolores
Among these eight , players can mix and match their picks to create their 3-fighter team for challenging other players.
As for King of Fighters 15's story, the available fights in this beta are the full teams of Team Sacred Treasures and Team Orochi. Meanwhile, Shun-ei and Dolores are the sole entries for their teams.
What Can Players Do In The Open Beta?
As expected, players have limited access to King of Fighters 15's features in this open beta, but it does offer various versus modes and online options. Players can challenge others online through the Casual Match and Room Match modes. Meanwhile, the offline content is limited to Versus mode and Training mode.
Lastly, SNK is giving players a taste of the Draft VS mode. This mode lets players ban characters strategically to deny a pick from their foe. Considering the open beta only has a select few to play, we'll have to see how well this goes.
After this open beta, King of Fighters 15 releases on February 17, 2022. Players will be able to select the full initial roster of 39 characters upon release.
