Hogwarts Legacy, the action RPG set over a century before the Harry Potter novels take place, could release sometime in 2022, sources from Warner Bros. say.

Toy Magazine spoke with Rachel Wakeley (thanks VGC),the company's general manager of consumer products in the UK and Ireland, and she mentioned that there would be “two major releases in 2022.” The first one is the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and the second being Hogwarts Legacy.

Wakeley said:

“From what we’ve seen, the launch will be well worth the wait and deliver a unique way for fans to interact with the franchise."

Warner Bros Says Hogwarts Legacy Could Release in Early 2022

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1800s where players take the role of a Hogwarts student. The game's official description describes it like this:

“Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Now you can take control of the action and be at the centre of your own adventure in the wizarding world. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover fantastic beasts, customise your character and craft potions.”

VGC also said the Hogwarts Legacy development team is pushing to make the game as inclusive as possible, following concerns over the franchise's ties to author J.K. Rowling and her anti-transgender views.
