How to beat El Gigante boss in Resident Evil 4 remake
As mentioned, Leon fights El Gigante in Chapter 4 of the Resident Evil 4 remake. It's teased in some in-game files slightly earlier, but finally takes place during the rainy night as you're heading back to the centre of the village. Trapped in a gladiator-style arena with locked wooden doors, you have no choice but to fight the giant before you.
El Gigante boss strategy
To start with, you'll want to keep as much distance from El Gigante as you can. This is a fairly easy task, because it moves very slowly around the circular arena, so you can always keep opposite it. Keep your distance, and take pot shots at its head using your pistol. Around you will be a range of huts, which you can into for extra ammo and herbs if you need them.
Once you shoot its head enough times, El Gigante will pick Leon up. This is an unavoidable section that actually works in your favour down the line. When it grabs you, spam R2 or RT to stab it, which causes a plaga parasite to sprout from its back.
From then on, focus your fire on that plaga. Once you shoot it enough, El Gigante will keel over on its knees. Head over to it and press the right trigger to stab the sprout. Repeat this twice more, and then land one final killing shot, and El Gigante will be defeated.
What are the rewards for beating El Gigante in Resident Evil 4 remake?
Once you defeat El Gigante, the main prize is being able to continue with the main story, rather than specific items. However, you can pick up a treasure from its body, which you can sell to the Merchant for a cash reward.
That said, the main consequence of defeating El Gigante is then being able to press on with the story, heading back to the church and hunting for Ashley.
