The Modern Warfare 2 servers are a hot topic of conversation within the Call of Duty community. When they're live, they host millions of players dropping into the action but on some occasions, they encounter issues that impact the entire player base.
With servers dotted all over the world, players are able to play matches with a stable connection which makes all the difference when attempting to score the victory. However, there are certain situations where lag and maintenance prevent players from joining a match.

Are the Modern Warfare 2 servers down?
At the time of writing (September 21, 2022), the Modern Warfare 2 servers are currently offline as Infinity Ward begins preparing for the second and final weekend of the beta.

The servers are expected to switch on again from September 22, 2022, as PC and Xbox players get their first opportunity to play the game. If any issues surrounding the Modern Warfare 2 servers arise, we will update this guide with all the latest information.
How to check Modern Warfare 2 server status
If you're encountering issues with the Modern Warfare 2 servers, there's a way of checking if the issue is widespread. Before unplugging and resetting everything, head to the Activision online services page to see the current server status for Modern Warfare 2 and other Call of Duty titles.
When do the Modern Warfare 2 servers go live?
Once the second beta weekend comes to an end, all eyes will turn to the full launch of Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer. Typically, the servers are switched on a few days earlier but for the vast majority of players, servers will go live on October 28, 2022.
There's a chance those with a digital edition of Modern Warfare 2 will gain early access to the servers if they're switched on early but we expect multiplayer to remain locked until the full game launches.
