If you're looking to get a pair of Fortnite Howler Claws for yourself, this is everything you need to know. Added to Fortnite with the Fortnitemares 2022 event, they're a bit of a hot commodity right now, switching up how players tackle the map.

Fortnite Howler Claws locations
There are a few things you should know about the Howler Claws before you get into a game of Fortnite. You need to find Alteration Altars, a new interactive item, to get the Howler Claws. You can find those Alteration Altars at the following locations:
- Centre of ChromeJam Junction
- North East of Shiny Sound
- Centre of Lustrous Lagoon
- South of Shimmering Shrine
- East of Cloudy Condos
- Centre of Flutter Barn
- Three at the centre of Reality Tree
When you know you're in a game but haven't loaded onto the Battle Bus yet, you can see the Battle Bus' route on the map. Look at that, and pick an altar that is close.
From here, you simply have to go over to the area and do the Ritual emote. Luckily, this emote isn't one you have to unlock. When you step on the pedestal, you will be prompted to do it by simply pressing down on the D-Pad.

This will leave you vulnerable for a few seconds while you perform the ritual. Because of this, you should make sure to clear out any enemies nearby who may be waiting to pick you off. You will know you have completed the ritual successfully when your character develops a wolf mask and Howler Claws.
The Howler Claws will take up one spot in your inventory and, if your inventory is full, will make you drop the weapon or item you are currently holding. For this reason, make sure you hover over your worst weapon when doing the ritual.
What do the Fortnite Howler Claws do?
With the Fortnite Howler Claws, you get a new mask and set of melee claws. They aren't all that strong and place you at a disadvantage from range, but the slash attack still does a fair bit of damage up close. On top of that, every 20 seconds they ping your area, showing you where your closest enemies are, in a move called Wolfscent Ability. This is a great tool that can be used to hunt down anyone nearby.
Unfortunately, the Howler Claws make you an easy target in a firefight, so make sure you have a solid ranged weapon for those mid- to long-range encounters. The claws can be used in the air and on the ground, making them decent at close-range. Think of them as being similar to lightsabers, back when they were in the game.
