So how did this rumor start?

Whispers of a possible ban wave originated from TikTok.

In one such video, it is assumed that the ban wave would be akin to the magnitude of the 2016 event. It is said to involve blacklisting everyone who used the save wizard glitch, frozen money, or those who performed the vehicle duplication glitch.

Even though TikTok isn't necessarily the most trustworthy source for news, Rockstar has performed various mass bans of players before, especially those that manipulated the game's internal code.

According to Rockstar's Policy on online suspension, players can be banned for multiple reasons:

GTA Online suspensions are triggered by a number of factors, including modding in GTA Online, exploiting or abusing game mechanics, manipulating protected game data and code, or interfering with other players’ gameplay experience.

As the duplication glitch and the use of frozen money involves "manipulating protected game data", it is possible that those who performed these actions may incur possible bans.

But we await official confirmation by Rockstar on whether these suspensions will occur this month.
