Is Ghost Recon Frontline free? Ubisoft celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the original Ghost Recon game, by revealing a brand-new entry in the famed series, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Frontline,
The game looks set to offer the franchise's familiar tactical action in PVP form, with an element of battle royale and teamwork thrown in for good measure. However, a number of questions remain about the game despite the announcement, including whether it's free.
Is Ghost Recon Frontline Free?
Ubisoft stated that Frontline is free-to-play. This means that the multiplayer title will not require a purchase to play. It can be downloaded without charge on the compatible platforms. This comes as a change since its last entries, Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Ghost Recon Wildlands, were both premium packages. In normal speak, that means there was a one-time purchase.
That also means we can expect Ghost Recon Frontlines to have micro-transactions, likely in-game purchases tied to things such as cosmetics or other customization items. So far, Ubisoft hasn't said what kind of in-game purchases to expect, though we'd be surprised if it didn't follow suit with other games making the switch to free-to-play, such as Halo Infinite.
The title is already available to pre-download on PC through Ubisoft Connect, and while we know the beta begins soon, there's no solid Ghost Recon Frontline release date yet. Presumably, we'll learn more once the beta ends. It runs from October 14 through October 21, so we likely won't have long to wait to find out more.
This isn't the only Tom Clancy franchise Ubisoft is branching out with. The publisher recently announced XDefiant, an arena-based multiplayer shooter that had its own beta recently.
