Ghost of Tsushima map regions

The map of the game is divided into three regions namely, Izuhara, Toyotama, and Kamiagata. The first portion of the game is spent exploring the South of the map, Izuhara. By completing the quests there you unlock Toyotama which is the central region. Afterwards, you move further North to Kamiagata, an icy land, where you finish the game.

Ghost of Tsushima: How big is the map?

Twinfinite ran the numbers and calculated that the game's surface area is 11.02 square miles.

Fans have speculated over how large the playable map of the game will be for a while, and a user on reddit pulled out scales to figure it in this post that found the length of the island previously.

As the game is based on a real-life map the user identifies in-game locations that exist in reality and calculates the distance. It turned out that Tsushima Island is 2.4km in width, while the actual Tsushima Island is 9 km in width. What follows are some ratios and maths.

For those who a reminder, “The size of the area is proportional to the square of the length”. This meant that the game was approximately 14.5 times smaller than the actual island. As the real area is 708.5 sqkm, the Tsushima in the game turns out to be around 49 sq km.

You can compare both calculations for yourself and see what's accurate.

Ghost of Tsushima: How do other games compare?

The Ghost of Tsushima map is massive but by no means is it the largest. For comparison, the Breath of the Wild map is 72 sq km and GTA V is a massive 129 sq km. However, it's much larger than Fallout 4 which is 10 sq km. Ghost of Tsushima is also bigger than Skyrim which measures around 37 sq km

While the original island the game is based on is much more massive, at no point during my playthrough did Sucker Punch's latest open-world feel anything short of massive
