Ferrari's David Tonizza races ahead in Formula 1 New Balance Esports Pro Series

It was another electrifying evening at the Gfinity Arena for the third live show of the 2019 Formula 1 New Balance Esports Pro Series.

Fans across the Formula 1, esports and racing worlds saw Ferrari Driver Academy racer David Tonizza extend his lead in the drivers’ standings, with Red Bull Racing Esport’s Frederik Rasmussen finishing this round of races in second place and Renault Sport Team Vitality’s Jarno Opmeer completing the top three.

The live show, the penultimate one in the 2019 series, included a fierce head-to-head battle with all teams completing three races.

The first race of the night, and the seventh of the Pro Series, saw the drivers take on the classic fast and flowing Hockenheimring in Germany. Jarno Opmeer, third in the drivers’ standings ahead of the evening, took pole position in qualifying to put pressure on championship leader Tonizza and second-placed Frederik Rasmussen, who qualified 4th and 7th respectively.

The live show was streamed online via Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and Huya, as well as broadcast on global television by broadcast partners such as Sky (UK), Ziggo (Netherlands), MTV (Finland) and Fox (Australia).

Last night’s show is a great example of our work with publishers, sports rights holders, brands and media companies to deliver solutions which help realise the potential within the fast-growing esports industry – as well as our ability to deliver compelling content for our engaged gamer community.

Graham Wallace, Chief Executive Officer at Gfinity, said: “For young consumers today, esports and gaming is integral to their lifestyle. They have said yes to interactivity and no to passive entertainment. This is why the F1 Esports Pro Series is proving to be such a hit. Amazing racers, cloak and dagger team strategy and high-octane thrills and spills on the track. We saw an abundance of this on show this week. Congratulations to all involved with the series. It just gets better and better.”
