Mihoyo has recently confirmed that it has not yet added Ray Tracing support for Genshin Impact. The developers decided that they to deliver a quality experience for all platforms of the game. However, when will Mihoyo add Ray Tracing to Genshin Impact?
Is Ray Tracing Coming To Genshin Impact On PS5
According to a Gameindustry interview with Mihoyo technical director Zhenzhong Yi, the developers opted to not include Ray Tracing on the PS5 version of Genshin Impact. The Ray Tracing feature is a new feature of the PS5 which pushes the boundaries of graphics for titles available on this console.
The PlayStation 5 version of Genshin Impact could've been superior in graphics if Ray Tracing was implemented. However, the decision to not use the new feature was to provide a quality experience throughout all its platforms.
Yi mentions that they've made the decision to not use Ray Tracing in Genshin Impact. Mihoyo's artists and developers would have to work more to deliver the improved graphics experience on PlayStation 5. Mihoyo opted to avoid this situation.
While Ray Tracing is currently not available on the PlayStation 5 version, Mihoyo is said to have light illumination which can be different depending on which time of day it is in-game.
Adding Ray Tracing Soon
In the same interview, Yi also confirmed that Genshin Impact is running on a heavily customized Unity game engine. The Unity game engine also has support on Ray Tracing which makes it a possibility for Mihoyo to eventually improve the PS5 version of Genshin Impact.
As of now, Mihoyo's upcoming content for Genshin Impact is patch 2.0 update. This update is massive as a whole new region, new characters, and fresh features will be added to the game once the patch drops. The release for this patch is this coming July 21. We'll have to wait for more information from Mihoyo if we're seeing Ray Tracing on the game anytime soon.
