Since launching in 2019, Gears 5 has seen a steady stream of content updates known as Operations. Operation 5 released in November 2020 bringing plenty of new maps and characters, while March's Operation 6 expanded on that with new gameplay modes.
There's a similar pattern between these Operations, and thankfully we now have a full overview of what's coming in the upcoming update.
The Coalition also released a new blog post confirming they'll be moving onto next-generation development with Unreal Engine 5.
For now though, read on for everything you need to know about Operation 7.

What Are Operations?
In The Coalition's own words, Operations are designed to "evolve your Gears 5 Multiplayer Experience". They act similarly to seasons within live service games, offering fresh content and lasts for several months at a time.
That also comes with Tour of Duty, a season long progression system where players can earn free cosmetic content. That refreshes once a new Operation begins, so if you're after a particular item, you'll need to level up before it ends.
Operation 7 Release Date
UPDATE - Operation 7 goes live on Tuesday, May 18.
We don't have a confirmed release date just yet, but The Coalition has confirmed that unlike previous seasons, Operation 6 would last for 11 weeks, rather than the previous standard of 16 weeks. As Operation 6 began on March 2, that would place the end date as May 18th. As such, we'd be expecting it to arrive pretty soon, even more so after The Coalition tweeted a teaser on May 11.
"Summon the beast!" it reads, after telling readers to "gear up" for Operation 7. Some hopefully speculated the Hammer of Dawn was coming back, but The Coalition quickly shot that down.
Here's everything you need to know about Operation 7's new characters:
Holding advanced degrees in biochemistry, toxicology and chemistry, Hana Cole is a gifted scientist who takes an unconventional approach to solving problems. Joining Colonel Hoffman in his fight against the Swarm, Hana’s technological innovations are the secret behind Scorpio Squad’s ability to destroy enemy hives from within.
The monster who creates monsters, Locust scientist Ukkon is responsible for genetically engineering many of the creatures that terrorized the people of Sera after E-day. In the early years of the Locust War, he also used Imulsion to create a new breed of biological horrors.
Operation 7 New Map - Ephyra
The burning remains of the once-prestigious Estemont Hotel serve as the focal point of this Ephyra city block. Controlling the hotel is key, but numerous points of entry give ample opportunity to counterattack.
Operation 7 Patch Notes - PVE & PVP Changes
There's plenty of changes coming to Gears 5 Operation 7, not just for PVE but also PVP.
We'd suggest reading the full overview of the changes on the official Gears website, as there's a lot to take in and more than we should be sharing here.

Operation 7 Drop 2
Operation 2 looks like it will be split into two parts, potentially indicating a mid-season update to the game in the coming months.
The official content roadmap for Operation 7 has teased a 'drop 2' but so far there's no release date of the overview of what the content will entail.
Although based on the silhouette, it would suggest two new characters coming with drop 2, whenever it does arrive.
