Gears 5: Esports 2019-2020 Season Details Announcement


With Gears 5 launching next week, that being the 6th September for early access via the Ultimate Edition and the official release on the 10th September, it wont be long before we hear about the Gears 5 esports season ahead. We will get our a chance to see what Gears 5 maps and modes await us in the competitive side of Gears 5 and the new season announcement is imminent.

Gears Esports has really come into its own since the launch of Gears of War 4, particularly thanks to the massive push from Microsoft/Xbox, Gears Esports and The Coallition. Gears 5 is set to continue the success it found in the past fews years and we have the details for you here.

How Does Gears 5 Esports Work?

Players from around the world will be able to sign up and compete in regional ladders and online tournaments for weekly cash prizes. The top teams from every region will be awarded with travel coverage to major international events. The regions include:

  • North America
  • Central America
  • Europe
  • Asia Pacific
  • South America

The 2019-2020 Season will feature three major events leading into the World Championship, along with regional events. All major events will be open to all teams, meaning anyone has the chance to compete.

There will also be an online Pro League for the best teams in North America, Central America and Europe. In addition to guaranteed prizing for qualifying, every Pro League team is automatically provided with travel to major events and the opportunity to compete for divisional prize pools. It should be noted that teams in the Pro League will be removed from regional ladders and ineligible to compete in weekly online tournaments. Top amateur teams will also have the opportunity to reach the Pro League via online qualification, with the lowest ranking teams from each division forced to fight for their spots.

Full program details will be announced on Friday, September 13th, official play kicks off on September 22nd.

What Game Modes Will Be Played?

What Maps Will Be Played?

A finalised Gears 5 map pool has yet to be decided, as it stands all 7 maps are eligible to be used in the 2019-2020 Gears 5 Esports Season:

  • District
  • Training Grounds
  • Exhibit
  • Icebound
  • Asylum
  • Bunker
  • Vasgar

Are There Any Age Restrictions?

Players 18 years of age or older are eligible to compete in all online and live events, including Pro League.

Players 17 years of age may participate in all live events and online competitions, including Pro League, with parental consent.

Players 16 years of age may compete in all other online competitions with parental consent. These players may also compete in live events with parental consent unless prohibited by local law, which is currently the case for events in Mexico.

Players aged 13 to 15 may compete in online competition with parental consent, but are not eligible to compete in Pro League. These players may also attend live events as a spectator with the direct supervision of a parent or guardian, however they are not eligible to compete.
