The Pacific era of Warzone has received its final update much to the excitement of players. The mid-season update includes the arrival of two new weapons along with a much-needed dose of weapon balancing that will shake up the meta.

As players drop onto Caldera for their final matches, attention is turning toward the launch of Warzone 2. While many are looking forward to the next chapter of the battle royale, some sections of the community are wondering what the future holds for the current iteration of the game.

A recent leak claims the vast majority of the Warzone map pool will disappear, leaving one map available to players wanting to play when the next instalment releases.

Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep are disappearing

According to notable Call of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope, Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island will be removed from Warzone once Warzone 2 drops. The removal means Caldera will be the only map that’s playable.

The leak corroborates another claim from Tom Henderson suggesting the current iteration of the battle royale will be renamed Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera. Some players believe this is a ploy from Activision to drive the player base onto Al Mazrah.

As with all leaks, it’s important to take them with a pinch of salt but considering Hope’s and Henderson’s impressive track record, there’s a possibility the removal of Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep are on the way out.

It’s unclear if Infinity Ward plans to bring the maps to Warzone 2 as a smaller alternative to Al Mazrah. There’s a chance they don’t appear in the first few seasons of the new game to give fans a chance to experience the new map in all its glory. If player demand is there, Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep could return at a later date.
