Warner Bros Interactive Is Not Being Sold, According To Warner Media CEO

Warner Brothers had been tipped to sell their interactive division but it now seems unlikely.

According to TheSixthAxis, an email from Warner Media CEO Jason Kilar was sent to employees.

Here's what we know about the situation.

The email from Kilar reads:

“The Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Group continues to be led by Chairman Toby Emmerich,” it said. “Warner Bros. Television Studios group continues to be led by Chairman Peter Roth.”

“Warner Bros. Interactive remains part of the Studios and Networks group, along with our Global Brands and Franchises team including DC led by Pam Lifford, and our Kids, Young Adults and Classics business led by Tom Ascheim, all focused on engaging fans with our brands and franchises through games and other interactive experiences.”

The statement was confirmed at the Warner media press room.

Due to them wanting to engage fans “through games and other interactive experiences,” it seems that they've possibly rethought their decision to sell or they have postponed it.

It was suggested that Warner Bros. Interactive would be sold to pay off some of the company's sizeable debt.

When this was announced, Microsoft and EA showed an interest in acquiring the publisher, as well as Activision. It's also worth noting that the likes of NetherRealm, including the Mortal Kombat IP, would have been included in any potential sale.

Since then, Rocksteady Studios finally confirmed that it's working on a Suicide Squad title, scheduled to be announced at DC FanDome latest this month. You can read more about that here.

It had been rumoured that the publisher was intending to hold its very first E3 press conference before the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At present, fans are eagerly awaiting news on WB Montreal's Batman title, a Harry Potter RPG, and the aforementioned Suicide Squad title.
