Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.

Many have focused on changing the game by finding fresh ways to improve its combat or adding everything from interesting new quests to subtle immersive details to it, with a few even going as far as re-creating areas from previous Elder Scrolls games or attempting a little bit of satire.

If you’re a big Elder Scrolls lore buff and enjoy hoovering up every detail you can find about the mysterious continent of Akavir, you might be interested in a mod that’s seemingly moving out of development hell thanks to some aid from Reddit.

Are you interested in taking a trip to Akashima once this Skyrim mod arrives?

The mod in question is the work of modder Hypn0sef, who’s previously helped bring one player’s deceased pet to Tamriel as a tribute. They kicked off a thread on r/skyrimmods by admitting that they needed some support with a massive mod they’ve been working on for a year, admitting: “it’s starting to get so tedious (that) I'm ready to just burn it all down and move (on).”

They then gave an outline of the project’s scope, revealing: “It's a tropical Akaviri island. It's gonna have 50+ NPC and ideally a few questlines, as there are two guilds.” and sharing a short video showing off some of their progress thus far.

Plenty of their fellow players responded to the post positively, with user Milk_Malk saying: “(I) would love another (new) land mod man, that would be sick, especially if you plan on taking inspiration from Japanese architecture. That could bring something really unique to the table.”, prompting Hypn0sef to reveal: “I was inspired by a class on Japanese cinema I took as an elective. Particularly the movie Kagemusha.”

A few with established modding experience, such as users wankingSkeever and GazeboGazeboGazebo, even offered to help with adding quests to the island, which was the area Hypn0sef of development was most unsure of, admitting: “I've made basic dialogue quests (before) but nothing (that’s) like, go to location X, kill NPC, which opens a door which leads to the next stage, etcetera.”

Hypn0sef has since edited their original post to add: “I asked for a little support and received a ton, thanks so much. This refilled my batteries and I'm at it again.”

Update: Hypn0sef has now released a beta version of Akashima that you can find here if you fancy checking out how work on the mod is progressing or giving it a go.
