The world of The Sims is full of wacky events and unexpected occurrences that can leave players dying with laughter and searching for an explanation.

While the unending supply chain of madness recently paused so that players could react to news of The Sims 5 by outlining their desire for a Sims 2 remaster, things are definitely now back on track.

However, the latest incident on the lips of players isn’t a family of Keanu Reeves clones, a child that looks a bit like Voldemort, or some morally dubious uses of the clubs system, but a bug that’s ruining players’ attempts to make their sims nice and cosy ahead of winter.

Have you ever encountered this Sims bug?

This strange issue is the subject of a recent thread in the subreddit r/thesims, which began with a post from, user stehan6, who shared a clip of one of their sims taking on a spider-esque form mid-stroll and captioned it: “(I’m) officially creeped out…”

Some of their fellow Sims stans were equally unnerved, with kaitaclysmic saying: “Omg this happened to me, too. It freaked me out well and good.” and ProfessionalSwitch45 adding: “Imagine the reaction from people who are trying the game for free for the first time and are seeing this.”

Meanwhile, user BrandonIsWhoIAm suggested that a particular garment is to blame and that it has been causing issues for a few months now, saying: “The sweater’s UV mapping is broken. It’s been like this since July (or) August.”

However, a couple of other users disputed the idea that a specific garment was the sole culprit, with zaxxxery arguing: “This has happened to me too and I’m pretty sure it had nothing to do with my sim’s sweater and it happened to multiple sims.”

Meanwhile, user sinful_mint_pie suggested that, regardless of the bug’s source, it kind of fits with the Halloween vibe many players will be going for right now, saying: “Tis the season to be spooky.”
