Microsoft Will Publish All Future Outer Worlds Games — If There Are Any

There might be more The Outer Worlds games in the works, if comments publisher Private Division recently made are anything to go by.

TweakTown editor Derek Strickland said Private Division confirmed to him that Microsoft and Obsidian would be publishing future Outer Worlds games.

The full comment was:

“Moving forward, Obsidian and Microsoft will be publishing future iterations in the franchise, and we're absolutely thrilled to see where they take it.”

It’s a shift that makes sense.

Xbox acquired Obsidian in 2018, bringing the formerly independent studio under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella.

The Outer Worlds released in 2019, but had been in development prior to the acquisition.

Not that this means The Outer Worlds 2 is guaranteed.

Strickland himself clarified that point, saying “To be clear this isn't a confirmation of The Outer Worlds 2. If there is a sequel, Private Division is just saying Microsoft and Obisian [sic] will be publishing it.”

There’s another good reason we might not see The Outer Worlds 2 anytime soon: Obsidian is busy.

Between Grounded, which is still in early access, and Avowed, an RPG exclusive to Xbox, the formerly independent RPG developer likely has its schedule full for the foreseeable future.
