Mortal Kombat Developer NetherRealm Working On Marvel Fighting Game – Report

NetherRealm Studios, creators of both the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises, could be turning their attention to a whole new cast of characters if a new leak is to be believed.

Longtime leaker Daniel Richtman has noted that the famous fighting game developer could be working on a Marvel title (as spotted by our sister site Stealth Optional).

While Richtman has a solid track record, there are a few elements of such a deal that raise some eyebrows.

For one, NetherRealm is owned by Warner Bros Interactive, and have been custodians of the DC Comics licence for several years for the Injustice franchise.

Still, the game is reportedly in production and would signal a continuation of Marvel's approach to partnering talent with its properties.

The House of Mouse already has an Indiana Jones title in development at Machine Games, as well as numerous Star Wars projects, including an open-world title from Ubisoft and a remake of Knights of the Old Republic at Aspyr.

While it certainly seems like a match made in heaven, it's unlikely you'll see the likes of Thor or Hulk engaging in Fatalities and the like – but the excellent Injustice series shows that there's much more to NetherRealm than over-the-top gore.
