New Minecraft update diversifies the game’s default characters

The square denizens of Minecraft can often be found creating massive masterpieces, such as faithful recreations of GTA Online’s Diamond Casino and the iconic Windows XP background, or even a working kebab machine.

After all, no matter how terrifying grandiose your build plans are, there’s only so much time you can possibly spend procrastinating and petting your dog.

However, most of the miraculous feats of engineering that make the game’s grandest projects achievable wouldn’t be possible without the new additions and changes brought to the game via updates. The latest of these has been revealed during this weekend’s Minecraft Live.

Are you looking forward to having more choices when it comes to your default skin?

The update, 1.20, contains a raft of goodies and adjustments, but is arguably headlined by the addition of seven new default character skins to go alongside the established options of Alex and Steve, with the aim of improving representation within it.

Also on the addition list is a new material, bamboo, which can be used to make everything from cosy hideouts to a new form of transport in the form of the raft, which looks to be a great addition to the gear list of any explorer venturing out into the great unknown.

For those who’re a little less adventurous, there are some hanging signs that’ll make your shops look very swanky and a new form of bookshelf that’ll allow you to access your array of tomes and grimoires in seamless fashion, especially if you inject it with a bit of redstone.

Then again, if you’re one of the many players with more pets than you know what to do with, you’re probably more excited to learn that some new mobs are on their way to the game, with rideable camels being first on the list and helping make desert biomes feel a bit more authentic.

Though arguably more coveted is the Sniffer, which absolutely stormed its way to victory in this year’s mob vote, beating out the Rascal and the Tuff Golem by grabbing over half of the total votes.

Also announced during the stream was a new DLC pack set to land on October 18, which will see DC superhero Batman turn arrive in the game alongside some of his most famous friends and foes.

Regardless of which of these additions you’re most amped up for, make sure to follow us for more Minecraft mods and Roblox updates as new content arrives in both games.
