Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was the first next-generation game revealed for Xbox Series X at the Game Awards 2019, but after a no show at E3 2021, it's still shrouded in mystery.

Since that initial (admittedly stunning reveal), we've really only had some behind-the-scenes content.

Here's all we know so far.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Gets Series X/S Enhancements - 9th August

While we wait for the sequel, there's never been a better time to play the first game.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is getting a free optimisation for Series X and Series S that adds raytracing, a resolution mode, and enriched visuals.

What is Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2?

As we mentioned, this sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is in development at Ninja Theory, the team behind the short-lived Devil May Cry reboot.

Leveraging the power of the Xbox Series X, as well as the studio's huge production budget now that Microsoft owns them, the game is expected to be a technical marvel. In fact, it's running on the stunning Unreal Engine 5.

Expect it to be a difficult journey into the psyche of Senua, a warrior with a troubled past, and the stunning world that she inhabits.

Oh, and it'll have some lovely cloud tech. Not gaming in the cloud, though, like actual, weather clouds.

Release Date

While the game was originally aiming for a 2020 release date, Ninja Theory essentially went through the entirety of the year without an update.

Here's hoping for some news soon.

Confirmed Platforms

Hellblade 2 will launch on Xbox Series X and PC, while also being playable on Xbox One.

Of course, with it being a first-party Xbox title it'll also launch as part of Xbox Game Pass - meaning if you're a member you can play at no extra cost.

Here's the stunning reveal trailer that got hearts racing and eyes popping out of heads. It's captured in-engine on Xbox Series X, too.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Gameplay

We've not seen actual gameplay of the game yet, but that could change at E3 – we'll keep our fingers crossed.
