Developed by Ninja Theory, a recently-acquired Microsoft first-party studio, the game is a sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.
That game won rave reviews, not only for its intimate depiction of mental illness but for its stunning Norse-inspired visuals and incredibly motion capture.
What is Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2?
As we mentioned, this sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is in development at Ninja Theory, the team behind the short-lived Devil May Cry reboot.
Leveraging the power of the Xbox Series X, as well as the studio's huge production budget now that Microsoft owns them, the game is expected to be a technical marvel. In fact, it's running on the stunning Unreal Engine 5.
Expect it to be a difficult journey into the psyche of Senua, a warrior with a troubled past, and the stunning world that she inhabits.
While the game was originally aiming for a 2020 release date, Ninja Theory essentially went through the entirety of the year without an update.
Here's hoping for some news soon.
Hellblade 2 will launch on Xbox Series X and PC, while also being playable on Xbox One.
Of course, with it being a first-party Xbox title it'll also launch as part of Xbox Game Pass - meaning if you're a member you can play at no extra cost.
Here's the stunning reveal trailer that got hearts racing and eyes popping out of heads. It's captured in-engine on Xbox Series X, too.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Gameplay
We've not seen actual gameplay of the game yet, but if it's still coming out in the Xbox Series X launch window we'd expect it to be shown in full at the July event. We'll update this as soon as we know more.
