Randy Pitchford Steps Down

As seen from Pitchford's Tweet, he will be stepping down from his position as Gearbox Software's President of Software and promoting the now-former chief technology officer Steve Jones to this position. Pitchford continues that this decision was to focus more on handling the "creative and business strategy" of the company.

Other Gearbox Projects

As of now, Gearbox Software is moving beyond its video game ventures and moving to other media such as movies. The Borderlands movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jack Black has just finished filming earlier this 2021 and many fans are just waiting for details about the movie's release.

This movie will follow events similar to the first Borderlands but has notable differences for the main team. Pitchford has confirmed that the movie will be "authentic to characters, tone and style but will allow for independent storylines." As seen in the main movie cast, the protagonists will be Roland, Lilith, Tiny Tina, Tannis, and Krieg. In the source video game series, Tiny Tina and Krieg doesn't appear until Borderlands 2.

Moving Forward

With Pitchford out of the President of Software position, Steve Jones will be the one to make decisions for Gearbox Software's production and development. We've yet to see how this will affect the Gearbox Software titles moving forward after this major decision.

The earliest creative title from Gearbox that we may see the difference could be from the upcoming Tiny Tina's Wonderlands which will be released on 2022. The game looks similar to the Borderlands games but we've yet to see all its features to bring something new to the table.
