Fuser, the latest game from Rock Band developer Harmonix, is coming later this year.

Swapping plastic guitars and drums for a DJ-based mixing challenge, Fuser offers over 100 songs to mix.

Players pluck individual instruments and sections from existing songs and layer them into others, building songs on-the-fly.

Here's everything you need to know about what is sure to be the closest thing to a music festival in 2020.

Gameplay

A new preview in IGN describes Fuser as “a cross between the music-mixing tech of Harmonix’s impressive board game DropMix and the score-based challenge of Rock Band,” adding, “The sheer variety of options, both while mixing music and in Fuser’s overall offerings, is brimming with potential, offering plenty to those wanting to chase scores and leaderboards or to those looking for a place to creatively express themselves.”

Because there’s no penalty of any kind for a missed note or other slip-up, the game acts essentially like a real party-DJ setup, letting you do whatever sounds good or makes you happy. You can simply play the part, make some noise, and DJ in your living room.

Online Multiplayer

“Solo acts abound, but music is often a collaborative effort, and Fuser’s cooperative multiplayer aims to let that shine through,” IGN writes.

“With up to four friends selecting music and eight friends acting as the audience, players can gather together for mini concerts, riffing off of each other’s musical choices when in the virtual-DJ hot seat. Or, as an audience member, you can make requests, show friends support (or confusion) in their eclectic choices, and eventually swap places with those choosing the tracks.”
