The sequel to Team17's incredibly popular multiplayer adventure, Overcooked, launched in 2018. Play as a cartoon chef who is tasked with cooking dishes and interacting with customers in outrageous restaurants. It ranges from dainty rafts on a river to mineshafts and even flying airships. At release, the game was well received and still has a large following today.
The fast-paced action game Hell is Other Demons features roguelike elements, aiming to challenge the players with thousands of demons while they are serenaded by a synth-wave soundtrack. While the game boasts tough but fair combat and bosses to slay, the arcade mode offers battles that are generated procedurally for infinite replayability. The action in this game is challenging and satisfying.
Sonic Mania was hailed as a return to form for the SEGA mascot when it hit shelves in 2017, paying homage to the SEGA mascot's past on the Genesis. It takes place over 12 levels and follows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as they seek to eliminate Doctor Eggman. The game was created by a team of former Sonic fan game developers and ROM hackers. New Sonic stages and remixes of classics made the game one of the best iterations in years, as it harked back to the origins of the character.
Horizon Chase Turbo, a tribute to classic arcade racers, lets players race through 148 tracks by themselves or with up to four friends. As a result, it received positive reviews from critics who hailed it as a new take on the arcade racing genre. If you're looking to have some fun racing action to jump into with friends, this is definitely a great choice.
