Epic Games Store - Free Games of the Week (May 12-19)

May 12, 2022: You can grab three Epic Games Store free games right now until May 19, when a Mystery Game will become the only one left to grab.

Wondering what the Epic Games Store free games of the week are right now? Every week since Epic launched its rival to Steam, the platform has offered at least one free game. Ranging from hidden gems like Death's Door to bigger hits such as Dead by Daylight, Control, and GTA V, it's worth checking in regularly to potential grab a game you otherwise would have paid for.

As you'd expect from something called "weekly free games," these offers only last for one week. Epic tends to announce deals a week in advance, so check back often to stay up to date.

New Epic Games Store titles are appearing all the time. Unless other services - which typically offer a set of games each month - Epic Games Store titles get revealed basically as soon as one leaves. Better yet, you don't need any sort of active subscription to redeem and play them. Once you go through the checkout, they're yours to keep and play forever.

Free EGS Games for May 2022

The following three games can be claimed from May 12 to May 19, 2022.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition

When it released way back in 2015, Jotun was viewed as a 2D Soulslike for its solid art direction, deep combat mechanics, and intense difficulty. It's a simple tale of a lost Viking struggling to make it into the halls of Valhalla at the end of her life. To get there, she needs to impress the gods by vanquishing gargantuan foes.

Prey

Another classic adventure, Arkane's Prey took its sweet time to surface following the slow cancellation of the Xbox 360 launch title's apparent sequel. All was well, though, as critics heralded Prey as a worthy reboot of the franchise with plenty of crafty mechanics and solid exploration. If you're not here for the Metroid vibes, stay for the Dead Space throwbacks.

Redout: Enchanced Edition

If you have a Wipeout or F-Zero itch that really needs to be scratched, turn your attention to Redout: Enhanced Edition. designed as an "uncompromising, fast, tough and satisfying driving experience", Redout garnered thousands of positive user reviews when it released back in 2016.

As for why it's free right now, it might have something to do with Redout 2 launching on May 26. There's no such thing as a coincidence.

How Do I Redeem Epic Games Free Games?

After you've signed into your Epic account, navigate to the game page, and choose "Get" where the "buy" button normally is. This automatically adds the game to your Epic Games library, and you'll get an email confirmation thanking you for your purchase. This email is sent automatically, and you're not actually charged for the free game you redeemed.

You'll still need to install the game once it's redeemed, so navigate to your library from the Epic Games Launcher to do that. Then, just like normal, select the game you want to download, and choose where to install it.

While the free deals only last for a week, you can keep the game forever. Even if you don't have space or time for the game now, there's really no reason to pass on an offer if you're interested in the game.

What's Free on the Epic Game Store Next Week?

Once the current three games go the way of the dodo, we'll be left with a single Mystery Game. That's not a game name itself, but a placeholder for what could be an exciting free release. Unless it leaks ahead of time, we'll have to wait and see what it could be.

For more free games, check out the free PS Plus games for next month, or the Xbox Games With Gold offerings instead. The list of Xbox Game Pass titles for May is out right now. There's a lot to get for little cash right now.
