Elden Ring players have nightmare putting together a definitive list of their least-hated characters

Elden Ring's the Lands Between.

When they’re not trying to complete seemingly impossible runs through the game, raging at their own mimic tears or having their heads explode, Elden Ring players can be a pretty lighthearted bunch.

After all, when you spend lots of time being mercilessly slaughtered by bosses you’re randomly trying to beat with a drawing pad or while only using one hand, a good sense of humour goes a long way.

Sometimes this manifests in the guise of a discussion about which enemies you could beat up in real life, a controversial hat tier list, or even a Thomas the Tank Engine-themed mod, but currently, it’s taking the form of an epic saga of intense debates regarding who the game’s least hated characters are.

Who makes your list of Elden Ring faves?

This important discourse is the subject of a string of recent threads on the subreddit r/eldenring, with the latest of these having begun with a post from user vibraniumdroid, who shared their list of the game’s most “unhated characters”, adding that they’d “removed everyone who committed war crimes or genocide”.

Sadly for them, their fellow tarnished were quick to point out that a few of those still featured on the list might not be totally innocent in this regard, with user Vox86 saying: “Ok, but do we know for sure that Iji didn't commit any war crimes? (With him) being the war counsellor and all.”

Similarly, user Gratuitous_Sabotage argued: “I was about to say Iji and Blaidd probably aided and abetted a few, Rya’s also guilty by association.”

This conversation about crimes against humanity was preceded by user Braedon___’s intense efforts to put together a definitive “unhated characters” list, with their first attempt at doing so having missed out a few players’ faves.

For example, in response to it, user Iscariot1945 angrily asked: “Where’s Hewg, boy?”, while LordLolicon_EX fumed about Rya not being included and elinfernal1988 requested that “the great dog pope” should make an appearance.

Taking some of these suggestions into account, Braedon___ did produce a revised version of the list, quipping: “There are a lot more good characters in this game than I thought.”, though even this list didn’t evade criticism, with some players calling for Ranni to be removed from it and user HerbySK declaring: “Somehow you are still missing my mate Blackguard Big Boggart, the only boiled prawn seller in the lands between....this must be rectified!”
