Deathloop: Everything We Know So Far

Jump To

Deathloop, the next title from Arkane Studios, is coming to PS5 in 2021. Offering a time-bending assassination adventure told from two conflicting perspectives, it sounds as if it'll offer some truly unique combat and gameplay scenarios.

Let's dive into all we know about the latest game from the studio behind Dishonored.

Post E3 Announcements? - June 11, 2021

Excuse the tangent, but stick with us. Last night, Host Geoff Keighley unveiled the Death Stranding Directors Cut at Summer Games Fest. It was just a small reveal, nothing huge.

But it was mentioned that there would be a full reveal for the Director's Cut, which was only "just weeks away".

Obviously, Sony PlayStation isn't taking part in E3 2021, which is why we imagine details on Deathloop could be thin on the ground, so perhaps there's another PlayStation State of Play Broadcast on the way.

This could make sense, but for now, it's just speculation on our part, so don't take it as confirmed for the time being.

E3 Expectations - June 8, 2021

We're just a few days away from E3 2021 and Microsoft and Bethesda will be hosting joint press conferences on June 13th.

Now, quite how Bethesda intends to deal with their PS5 exclusives Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop during the conference remains to be seen.

It's believed both games are timed exclusives, so it's possible they might simply announce when they are coming to Xbox. But even then, we find it hard to imagine Xbox dedicating too much time to games not currently on their platform. Still, we might see something, so stay tuned and definitely make sure you don't miss the show.

Deathloop Preview: Arkane Is At Its Weirdest, Wildest, and Smartest On Blackreef - May 19, 2021

We got the chance to directly preview Deathloop back in May, and you can read our impressions here.

Deathloop Delayed Until September - April 8, 2021

Bad news, time-bending assassins. You'll have to wait until September to play Deathloop. Find out more here.

Release Date

Deathloop has been delayed, and now won't ship until September 14.

“We’ve made the very hard decision to delay the launch of Deathloop to September 14, 2021. At Arkane we have a strong vision for Deathloop, and we don’t want to compromise on that. But we also need to do all we can to ensure the health and safety of everyone in the studio.”, the game's director Dinga Bakaba explained.

Deathlloop is going to be a two platform exclusive when it releases. According to a blog post posted on the Playstation website, it will not release on the Xbox Series X but instead will only be playable on the PS5 and PC. With Microsoft acquiring Bethesda, it'll come to new platforms later.

What Is Deathloop?

As per the game's storefront synopsis:

Take on the role of Colt as you search for a way to put an end to a timeloop trapping Blackreef while being hunted by the island’s inhabitants.

Use powerful weapons and abilities to take out eight key targets across the stunning and chaotic island before the day resets.

Lurking in the shadows is rival assassin Julianna whose sole mission is to take Colt out and keep the loop going. Learn from each cycle, try new paths and approaches to break the loop once and for all.

Expect time-bending, supernatural assassination fun, then. There are going to be multiple ways to play Deathloop, which does not come as a surprise from Arkane. The line between stealth and chaos will likely be just as fun to walk as it is in Dishonored, but we may just end up going for the latter with the game supporting PS5's Dualsense controller's adaptive triggers.

Deathloop will feature the usual pistols, shotguns, and rifles, but also some quirky-looking offerings too. Find out all we know here.
