Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Gets Surprise 4K Re-Release on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mobile Devices

In a bit of news that came out of nowhere, Publisher Interplay Entertainment and developer Black Isle Studios announced an HD remaster of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.

According to the press release, this version of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance will have enhanced visuals on these new systems and will even support 4K on consoles that allow it.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Gets Surprise 4K Re-Release on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mobile Devices

Fans won’t have to break the bank either since Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance will be re-released for $29.99 on all systems.

The number of systems Dark Alliance will be hitting isn’t a huge surprise since the original hack-and-slash RPG originally came out on the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube, though it also seems to be in line with previous re-releases for Neverwinter Nights and the 1998 Baldur’s Gate.

Sadly, while Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance does offer local co-op, which is great, there is no added online play, so if you were hoping to play this with a friend from afar that won’t be happening.

This re-release of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance isn’t just a welcome bit of nostalgia for gamers that were around for the sixth generation of consoles, but the fact that it’s coming out a month before DnD: Dark Alliance is a smart bit of marketing.

DnD fans are probably just happy to see more video games under the Forgotten Realms era getting re-released and we’re always down for preserving video game history.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance comes to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices at the end of the week, on May 7.
