Fortnite: CRD Is Holding A Charity Tournament Next Month

Cure Rare Disease (CRD), a non-profit public charity that helps out folks with rare diseases and genetic disorders, has partnered with Massachusetts DECA for a special Fortnite tournament on Saturday, September 5.

The goal of the fundraiser is to get high-school students involved through social media and Twitch, and bring greater awareness to the work CRD does.

The charity’s mission statement is “to offer effective, life-saving treatments developed through collaborations with world-renowned researchers and clinicians, and in partnership with our generous donors,” the CRD website says.

“Our customized therapeutics are designed specifically for the men and women who continue to fight for their right to live long, full, healthy lives despite having been diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder for which they’ve been told there is no treatment or cure.”

“Having the chance to participate in the Cure Rare Disease x MA DECA Fortnite Charity Tournament means so much to me,” CRD patient Terry Horgan said in a media advisory. “Oftentimes, events aren’t accessible to people with differing abilities, but this is something where I can compete equally with people from all across the nation — and I can’t wait.”

“Over the past year, Cure Rare Disease has been a valuable partner of ours to incorporate into DECA’s real-world educational opportunities,” said Donna McFadden, association advisor at Massachusetts DECA. “The Tournament is just another way in which we can work together and support a cause that is making a real difference.”

The tournament will be broadcast live on Twitch. In addition to a lot of competitive gaming, it’ll also feature raffles and giveaways, as well as appearances from “some of Fortnite’s biggest names.”
