Fortnite Season 8 is off to a very interesting start. We now have the third major Fortnite update today.
The Fortnite 18.21 update will probably carry forward the tone for the ongoing Fortnitemares 2021 event even further. We'll be seeing an interesting set of skins and cosmetics along with a few new weapons.
So without further ado, let's hop in and see what the current update has in store for us!

Fortnitemares 2021
Once the servers go live, we'll be taken into the world of Fortnitemares 2021 directly. This event will have two different trailers. The first one will be featuring the event, while the second one will be talking about the Cube Queen,
It's interesting to see the butterfly make a nice little return in the Cube Queen cinematic too. This butterfly was seen back in Chapter 2 Season 6 when the Foundation was trying to contain the Zero Point from exploding.
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the near future.
New Cosmetics
A new Ariana Grande Outfit bundle has been added to the game after the Fortnite update today. Dubbed as the Space Farer Ariana Bundle, the skin will have three variants along with it's own back bling and pick axe.
The Cube Queen has also made her entry onto the island. She just might be a part of the battle pass at this point of time. But there's a high chance that this skin might be a part of the Fortnite item shop as well.
The Cube Queen bears a strange resemblance to Hela from Thor Ragnarok. She has three different variants too.
The much awaited Mummy skin is also in the files after the Fortnite update today. There's a high chance that the Mummy Fortnite skin will be going live right after the Fortnite 18.21 update ends.
If it's not in the item shop by then, we'll probably be seeing it in the item shop in the next couple of days.
Interestingly enough, there are a total of 4 PAKs that are still encrypted within the files. One belongs to the Mummy while the other contains the skins for The Batman Who Laughs.
The remaining encrypted files are still unknown.
New Vehicles
Keeping in mind the festive spirit of Fortnitemares 2021, Epic Games have decided to bring back the brooms for this event.
Have fun riding these nifty little vehicles for as long as they last in the game.
New Weapons and Consumables
There aren't multiple new weapons in the Fortnite update today. However, we do have the Sideways Scythe which is all set to go live after the Fortnite 18.21 update.
We're not really sure if this weapon will be available in game just yet. Even if it isn't available, it should be going live in the next couple of days.
Interestingly enough, eliminating someone with the Sideways Scythe will heal you. Now the exact amount of health points restored is still unknown, but the higher the rarity, the more the healing ability.
A consumable known as the Zero Point Pretzel has also been added to the game files. Consuming this pretzel will allow you to harness the power of the Zero Point.
This does some kind of damage to enemy players too. So it does need to be tested out in the field of battle.
Map Changes
The Cube Town POI has finally gone live with the Fortnite update today. It's being dubbed as the Convergence because all the cubes have moved to the center of the map and decided to make it their own home.
As mentioned before, the Cube Town POI will be rich in chests and will have a lot of loot to offer too.
This isn't the only change that we'll be seeing. Since the Cube Queen has finally arrived in the game. She will be corrupting a large part of the map, if not all of it.
New NPCs
The Mummy is the first in the list of NPCs to have joined the game in the list of NPCs to have joined the island in the Fortnite 18.21 update.
That being said, he will probably have his own set of quests too.
Other than that, the Cube Queen NPC has also been added. But unlike most of the other NPCs on the island, the Cube Queen, in all probability, will be a hostile NPC.
From the looks of it, she will be spawning above the Cube Town POI itself. Interestingly enough, Epic Games can choose to disable the Cube Queen NPC if required.
And finally, we have a third NPC which will probably spawn within the Sideways only. This NPC is being dubbed as the Caretaker.
Data miners believe that the Caretaker NPC will drop a lot of loot once it's defeated.
And finally, the Ariana Grande NPC is also here. She can be found patrolling the pier at Believer Beach.
New Quests
Given that we've seen so many new NPCs being added to the island after the Fortnite update today, it was only natural to have a new list of challenges up for completion.
Most of these challenges are set to expire once Fortnitemares 2021 is over. However, there are few that are here to stay for the entire duration of the season!
There are a few sets of Ghostbusters quests as well, because why not! Completing these quests will help you unlock the Ghostbusters back bling for free.
New LTMs
The Horde Rush LTM has been added with the Fortnite update today. Now the Horde Rush LTM will also feature it's own set of challenges as well.
Not only will these challenges help you unlock free Fortnitemares 2021 rewards, they will also bombard you with XP too.
Here are some more details about the Horde Rush LTM:
- Fight off Cube Monsters over three increasingly difficult rounds.
- Collect score multipliers, get headshots, and earn elimination combos to earn a high score.
- Defeat the final boss to win!
Loot Pool Changes
These changes will affect the loot pool in the public lobbies only. None of these can be found in the Competitive modes.
- Sideways Scythe (Available within the Sideways & from killing the Caretaker)
- Witch Broom & Prop-ifier (available as floor loot)
- Candy Buckets are back.
- Pumpkin Launchers can be found in Chests, Shark Loot and Supply Drops.
Additional Changes
- Files related to the Sharks have been removed in the Fortnite 18.21 update. This indicates that Sharks will remain vaulted for the time being.
- Party Royale will be Fortnitemares themed for now. This will probably go back to the regular Party Royale once the event is over.
- A new version of Doctor Slone, known as Snow Slone will be available as a boss once again. While this character isn't going to be in the game just yet, she is already in the files.
