The FIFA 22 Team of the Year promotion is the most sought after release of the Ultimate Team year, and it's just around the corner.

Featuring the best performing player from the last 12 months, the promotion gives players the opportunity to get their hands on maxed-out, 99-rated versions of current players for the first time in the FIFA year.

But when exactly will the Team of the Year fun get underway? Here is when we are expecting the TOTY to be released.

Team of the Year Release Date

The Headliners promotion is currently live in FIFA 22, and is expected to remain as the featured promotion until Friday, January 14th.

It is on that date that we expect to see the Team of the Year promotion released into the FIFA Ultimate Team servers, with the promotion expected to last for just one week, ending on Friday, January 21st.

How Does Team of the Year Work?

We have seen varied approaches from EA over the course of the last few years, and there has been no confirmation as to how they will approach their FIFA 22 release.

An 11-man squad will be made available per the World XI selection made during the Ballon d'Or event, whilst EA may look to implement the Honourable Mentions cards again, featuring players who superseded their expectations during the calendar year.

The squad will be completed by a 12th man vote, with FUT fanatics able to vote for one final addition from a three-man shortlist drawn up by the team at EA Sports.

Team of the Year Predictions

The Team of the Year is one of the easier squads to predict, even more so given that we already know who has picked up a number of the key awards in the build up.

Gianluigi Donnarumma collected the Yashin Trophy, handed to the best goalkeeper of the year, and therefore is expected to occupy the spot between the sticks, whilst Robert Lewandowski is almost certain to lead the line after collecting the Best Striker of the Year award.

Lionel Messi will undoubtedly feature after collecting his seventh Ballon d'Or in 2021, whilst his former Barcelona teammate Pedri could be in line for an Honourable Mentions card after collecting the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best player under the age of 21.
