FIFA 22 Christmas Promotion: Release Date, What to Expect, FUTMAS, FUT Freeze & More

Halloween has been and gone, which means it's time to start turning our attentions towards Christmas!

As always, it is likely that EA have some big plans up their sleeves for the festivities across the Christmas period, but which promotion they opt for this year remains to be seen.

Will we see the return of the elusive FUTMAS promotion? Or will FUT Freeze return for yet another year of action? Only time will tell.

Release Date

Christmas itself isn't until December 25th, but EA aren't going to wait that long to start bringing the festivities to their FIFA title.

You can expect to see the FIFA 22 Christmas promotion arrive on Friday, December 10th, with the event running for two weeks, which would conveniently see it end on Friday, December 24th, allowing for a host of festive discounts on Christmas Day!

FUTMAS vs FUT Freeze

So, the big question is which promotion will EA decide to run this year?

FUTMAS

The FUTMAS promotion was a key part of the FIFA calendar up until FIFA 19, with player SBCs released throughout December in an advent calendar style format that focused on the number which the player wears for their club.

EA also released some themed weekly objectives throughout the FUTMAS promotion, as well as FUTMAS club items including kits and badges.

FUT Freeze

Now whilst we would love to see FUTMAS return, it seems increasingly likely that EA will opt to bring the FUT Freeze promotion back to Ultimate Team.

This is due to the fact that FUT Freeze can adopt a more traditional release, with Team 1 released on the first Friday, before Team 2 arrives the following week. This also allows EA to add their SBC's and Objectives cards whenever they see fit.

Predictions

Should EA opt for the FUT Freeze promotion, then we can expect to see some adventurous position changed cards arrive in the Ultimate Team market soon.

A ST Sadio Mane was the standout pick in FIFA 21, whilst a CB version of German forward Kevin Volland certainly raised a few eyebrows.

But who could EA look to include this year? Let's take a look.

Lionel Messi (95 OVR)

Now this may be a little optimistic, but we're hoping to see Lionel Messi headline the FUT Freeze promotion this year.

The Argentine has struggled for any real consistency during his stint with PSG so far, and with few special cards to his name, this could be a chance for EA to get an ST version of the GOAT into the title.

Joao Cancelo (88 OVR)

Joao Cancelo has already seen one position changed card in Ultimate Team this year after picking up a TOTW appearance after shining at left back for Manchester City this year.

Cancelo's ability to drop into midfield has drawn huge plaudits from those who have watched the Portuguese defender this season, so why not transfer that into FIFA with a CM card in FUT Freeze?

Ben Foster (85 OVR)

The Cycling GK is a cult hero in the footballing world, and we're hoping EA deliver an early Christmas gift by bringing him to the FUT Freeze promotion.

An 85-rated ST version of Foster could be one of the most popular FIFA Ultimate Team cards of all time. Get it done EA!
