It’s still early on in the FUT 19 calendar, but with the season so far dominated by one console, and one player, a response was needed at the Gfinity Arena in London.
On the opening day of the second FUT Champions Cup, and third major cross-console tournament on FIFA 19, all eyes were on Xbox One player F2Tekkz, as the 17-year-old was aiming to make it three tournament wins on the spin.
He began with two nervy victories, but finally came unstuck in 4-3 loss to Bundled Stokes. It was a surprise to Stokes to defeat Tekkz, not only because of the form of the opponent, but also his inconsistency. Stokes suffered defeats on Day 1 though, with his qualification to the knockouts still up in the air come the final game of the day despite his upset victory.
On that Xbox side of the draw, as you’d expect, World Champion MsDossary won his first four games to show he is once again one of the top dogs on FIFA 19. Whereas Dossary was a favourite, the same cannot be said for Brenner who also picked up four victories to get off to a fantastic start in London.

As for the PS4 side of things, the four big hitters, all playing in the main arena stumbled, with the second seeds taking the limelight. Nicolas99fc was outstanding all day, winning his first six matches. The defensively solid Argentinian showed he is no slouch in front of goal, picking up a crushing 10-3 victory over M10ustun.
Sitting either side of Nicolas, Vitality Maestro and Vfb DrErhano also showed flying form, picking up four victories to kick-off a perfect start to the day. LordHjorth was another surprising man to pull out a fantastic performance on Day 1 at the Gfinity Arena, with the Dane also going four from four, including a stunning comeback against Tore, claiming a 6-4 win after extra time.
The top seeds weren’t to be kept down however. Joksan in particular impressed in the latter half of Day 1, claiming a 10-6 win over Eisvogel that was especially mesmerising, while Stefano Pinna was unflappable as he was taken to penalties twice but survived. In the end Joksan and Pinna won six of their seven matches, showing sparks of brilliance throughout the day.
Xbox big guns flounder
Joining F2Tekkz in the main arena on Xbox were MegaBit, Marcus Gomes and Rogue GoalMachine, the best performers so far this season in FUT19.
Whereas Tekkz fought back to a 3-1 record, the Australian Marcus Gomes had a poor day winning just two of the first six games and leaving himself on the brink going into Round 7. None struggled as much as Goal Machine though, who lost three of his first four matches and was buried by teammate MsDossary 8-2. GoalMachine's poor day continued and he was eventually eliminated with just two wins to his name.
Over in the secondary arena, there were cries of joy and frustration all day. None more so by Hashtag Harry, sat next to teammate Hashtag Ryan, with the pair personifying just what can go wrong at tournament level. Ryan’s future remains in the balance at two wins and two losses, but it was a tough day for Harry who just didn’t get the rub of the green at all, losing the first four of his clashes in London before finally tasting victory, but it wasn’t enough and he was eliminated.
