With the first day of the RLCS World Championship in the books, six games were played and we already saw one team progress to the quarter-finals. Things could have turned out better for another - Triple Trouble.

Europe’s Triple Trouble Rocket League team headed into the World Championships, at the Prudential Center in Newark, as one of the only squads to be without an organization. Earlier this year, Aldin ‘Ronaky’ Hodzic,  Euan ‘Tadpole’ Ingram, and Jack ‘Speed’ Packwood-Clarke were let go from the now-closed esports organization, Red Reserve. Since then, Speed has left with Andy ‘Kassio’ Landais stepping up to take over the spot.

Despite not having organizational support, the three men only had one thing on their mind: The RLCS Season 7 trophy. The entire team walked into the press room looking focused and ready to play on Saturday, June 22. Triple Trouble finished the first day 0-1, as they lost to the reigning World Champs, Cloud9.

Triple Trouble lost 3-1 in their first game against Cloud 9

We realized against Cloud9 yesterday that we needed to change.”

Triple Trouble’s captain, Ronaky, agreed and elaborated on the team’s style.

“We don’t really have a style. We adapt to every team we encounter, and that is what we succeed with.”

When asked who their biggest competition was this weekend, they collectively agreed that F.C. Barcelona was one of the main teams on their radar.

“We have been playing against them since the Rival series. They make a great competitor, especially since they play in our region.”

Even though the team does not have monetary backing from an organization, Triple Trouble is still considered one of the best Rocket League teams in the league. Besides the fact that each player has their own following, fans around the arena have been incredibly supportive.

“Fan support over org support. It means the world to us,” Tadpole said with a proud smile. One caster was walking around the venue with a Triple Trouble jersey.

Good luck to all the teams that are participating in RLCS World Championship!
