After the Mid-Season Special in Week 4, Rocket League resumed its usual schedule in Week 5 of the Gfinity Elite Series Delivered by Domino’s. Several teams managed to secure their places in the playoffs after good results over the weekend, while others now find themselves requiring a big turnaround next week to keep their Elite Series dream alive. Here we take a look at some of the statistical highlights emerging from the fourth round of Rocket League fixtures from the Elite Series.
1. MummiSnow Blows Hot And Cold
Fnatic played out an epic series against Nordavind in Week 5, with the much-fancied Fnatic roster prevailing 3-2, thanks in no small part to MummiSnow. Having played for Prophecy in Seasons 1 and 2 of the Elite Series, MummiSnow made his return for Season 4 and has undoubtedly shown Rocket League fans what they were missing.
The Dane currently has 15 assists and sits top of this table, and he has also chipped in with 11 goals, placing him joint-sixth in the leader scorer charts. 7 of these assists came in last weekend’s game with Nordavind, and with Fnatic now having a guaranteed spot in the playoffs, MummiSnow’s contribution shouldn’t be overlooked. MummiSnow was a constant threat throughout the series as is reflected in his season total of 43 shots, the fifth most in the Elite Series.
The one caveat to MummiSnow’s contribution is that his performance during the two games Fnatic lost was relatively poor. In these games, he contributed just 1 goal and 1 assist, and although it should be said that Snaski and Maestro also suffered from a drop in form during these games, Fnatic’s leading assist man will be hoping for more consistency as we head towards the sharp end of the season.
2. Renault Vitality Overly Reliant On Fairy Peak
It’s perhaps harsh to level criticism that you can become too dependent on someone widely regarded as one of the game’s top players, but there were times in Vitality’s loss against exceL when the casters remarked that it looked as though they were waiting for Fairy Peak to produce a moment of magic. Vitality’s star player scored 5 goals in the series and contributed 2.50 saves per game, but both Neqzo and Paschy lagged behind with neither scoring a single goal in Week 5.
Vitality are the second-lowest scorers in the Elite Series with just 18 goals at an average of 1.5 per game, and while it must be noted that they are primarily regarded as a defence-based team, they simply aren’t doing enough in attack. Their goal differential of -3 indicates that their defence is still relatively stable, but Paschy and Neqzo will need to step up in the last Group A match with Vitality currently sat outside the playoff spots on three points.
3. Breezi Makes It Look Easy
Season 4 draftee Breezi raised some eyebrows when he was included in exceL’s starting roster ahead of Markydooda, and considering the latter’s average of 0.9 goals per game in Season 3, it was fair to say that Breezi would have to play well to vindicate his selection. However, play well he certainly did, as he added a level of stability to exceL’s attacking verve.
Breezi's individual stats aren’t spectacular, with just 4 goals and 4 assists to his name so far in Season 4, but his contribution to exceL’s overall gameplay shouldn’t be underestimated. Despite fielding the destructive roster of Pwndx, Markydooda and Nielskok that served them well in Season 3, exceL came out with a team score per game of just 831.67 in their Week 1 fixture against Method.
Breezi was then included into the line-up along with Mccluvin (with Markydooda and Pwndx making way), and the much-improved performance was reflected in the team score per game leaping to 860.00. This score improved again in Breezi’s second series, and with Pwndx back in the team in place of Mccluvin, exceL averaged a score of 967.50 per game against none other than reigning champions Vitality. With Breezi allowing his teammates to better express their attacking instincts, exceL could have the tools they need to blow the opposition away.
4. Sebadam Shines For Epsilon
With their season on the line, Epsilon needed a big performance against Group B leaders Hashtag United if they were to stand any chance of making it to the playoffs. Fortunately, their roster was up to the task as all three impressed in different ways.
Bilbo continued to display his expert positional awareness in attack, scoring 3 goals in the series to take his total for the season to 14, the joint-third best in the Elite Series. Sebadam showed off his all-round Rocket League skills, as he was a constant threat with 3.33 shots per game to go with his 2 goals and 3 assists. Cheerio also played a curious game, as he appeared to restrain his attacking tendencies to chip in with 4 saves as he looked to sure up the previously-leaky Epsilon defence.
Sebadam was arguably the star of the show, as he racked up an average score per game of 326.67, and allied with his league-topping 58 shots and third-best 14 goals, he has managed to show what a dangerous player he can be.
5. Method Find The Recipe For Success
Method guaranteed themselves a semi-final berth by winning their series against Reason, as they now sit four points clear of second-placed Envy with just one round of fixtures to play. Kassio shone once again, with another 6 goals taking his tally to 21 for the season. Owing mainly to Kassio, Method are the second-top scorers in Season 4 with 36 goals and paired with a tight defence that has conceded just 1.44 goals per game this season, it is no surprise that they have topped Group A.
As for Reason, it could have been a different story if they had been more accurate in front of goal, and interestingly they actually had more shots per game than Method. However, their radars were all off as they mustered just 2 goals in the entire series, both coming in their 2-1 win in Game 3.
