Gears Pro Circuit Mexico City Open – Group A Preview

Gears Pro Circuit Mexico City Open – Group A Preview

The Gears Pro Circuit Mexico City Open is fast approaching, as the world’s most talented Gears of War teams prepare for battle at the Auditorio BlackBerry, Mexico City, from January 20th – 22nd. Tickets are now available for purchase!

As the Auditorio BlackBerry undergoes its final preparations ahead of the next stop in the $1million Gears of War Pro Circuit, I’m excited to share my preview of Group A, in what is shaping up to be an amazing event.

OpTic Gaming

Lava | MentaL | Xplosive | Kenny | SuMuNs Ashes

Since their arrival in the Gears scene, OpTic Gaming have dominated the Gears of War Pro Circuit. The Green Wall has won back-to-back events, having secured a gold medal at MLG Columbus and Gfinity London, only losing one series to eUnited and EnVyUs in the process.

As the most successful team of 2016, there is no doubt in my mind that OpTic Gaming will head into 2017 with the intention of reiterating their dominance at the Mexico City Open.

Onslaught

Demize | ChaoZ | Cryticxl | Sleeafer | Crack Punki

As the first Latin American team to feature in the group stages of the Mexico City Open, Onslaught will be aiming to use their home field status to their advantage, as well as Crack, who is considered to be one of the best pure slayers in the LATAM region.

However, with two North American powerhouses already in their group, will they be able to pull of the impossible and make it out of Group A? We’ll have to wait and see…

Enigma 6

Crushmo | Eternity | Hudsonz | Affinity | Wilde Burger

While OpTic Gaming may be the fan favourites to top Group A, Enigma 6 are heading into the Mexico City Open as a dark horse. Having recently placed within the top six teams at the Gfinity London Open, while using European player Reaxion as a substitute, E6 clearly possess enough experience and talent to give OpTic a run for their money.

Predictions

1st - OpTic Gaming 3-0

2nd - Enigma 6 2-1

3rd - Onslaught 1-2

4th - Open Bracket Team 0-3

As much as I’d like to see Onslaught defeat the powerhouses of OpTic and E6, realistically, I can’t see them making it out of the group stages of the competition. In terms of seeding, it’s hard to see anything but OpTic topping Group A. They’re currently the best team in the game and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Who do you think will make it out the group? Let us know in the comments below!
