eSports Sitcom Coming to YouTube Red

The growing world of eSports has reached new heights as a report from Variety has announced that a new sitcom is currently in the works for YouTube Red, which will focus on the drama of competitive gaming.

Dan Harmon, co-creator of Rick & Morty, is said to be producing the untitled comedy which will be following “a newly formed team of eSports players trying to make it to the top in the cutthroat world of competitive gaming.”

The show is scheduled to be a six episode, half-hour scripted, comedy series. The talent lineup includes YouTube stars Dan Avidan and Arin Hanson of “Game Grumps,” with the sitcom also airing on Game Grumps’s YouTube channel in 2017.

With other live streaming services, such as Twitch, are dominating with eSports viewership as the industry continues to gain momentum, the idea to cater a show to their gaming fan base seems like a smart move for YouTube. Unfortunately, YouTube Red is one of the many subscription based streaming services, so you can expect to shell out $9.99 a month if you want to watch and support the eSports show.

In addition to this, attached to the project are Sarah Carbiener and Erica Rosbe from Rick and Morty’s, who serve as the sitcom’s showrunners.

Are you’re excited about the prospect of an eSports comedy and will this motivate you to pay the subscription fee to watch on YouTube Red? Let us know in the comments!
