It was announced on May 6th over on Dictionary.com - the online dictionary - that a number of new words would be added to the service from that day forward. Over a thousand new and modified entries were made, with some of the more interesting additions being directly related to competitive gaming.
Of note, the word esports was added, alongside additional gaming terms completionist and permadeath. You can find definitions according to Dictionary.com of the aforementioned words below.
esports: competitive tournaments of video games
completionist: a player who attempts to complete every challenge and earn every achievement or trophy in a video game.
permadeath: (in a game, often a video game) the permanent death of a defeated character, after which the player of the game cannot continue with the same character.
