Elite Series Rocket League - Week 4 Recap

Week four of the Elite Series has come to a close. The competition is beginning to heat up as the race for the playoff places begin. Let's take a look at the action.

Method v Reason

Kicking off the day, we had a strong Method side facing off against Reason, who were in need of a victory. Method began the game with some early aggression and Alot grabbed the first goal. An easy finish for Mognus brought the game to 2-0 and Reason were on the back foot.

Metsanauris continued the scoring for Method alongside an in form Mognus, taking the score to 4-0. Mognus was on fire as he secured his hat trick to move the score to 5-0 and he wasn't finished there, scoring a 4th goal to take a comfortable 6-0 win and a 1-0 lead in the series.

Mognus continued his fine form in the third game, scoring in just 4 seconds to give Method the lead. Reason could not stop Mognus. Another hat trick for Mognus secured a 4-0 victory for Method in game two. Could Reason mount any form of comeback?

It didn't look likely, as Method continued to dominate in game three, scoring in the opening 30 seconds. A second goal soon followed but a nice passage of play for Reason halted Mognus in his quest for more goals. A back and forth contest eventually went in favour of Method thanks to Mognus scoring another 2 goals toto put the game out of reach for Reason. A comfortable 3-0 victory for Method in the opening series.

Endpoint v Epsilon

Regarded as the underdogs by the analysts, Endpoint started on the front foot thanks to Cheerio opening the scoring. Some phenomenal defending from Endpoint allowed them to take the game and an early series lead. Epsilon responded in the second, taking advantage of some poor defending from Endpoint, to grab a 2-1 lead in the second game. Cheerio snatched a late equaliser to tie up the game, taking it to overtime where Tinny would score the winner to give Endpoint a 2-0 series lead.

Cheerio was having a great series, opening the scoring once again to give Endpoint the lead. An easy finish from Shakharon gave Endpoint a 2-0 lead again but Data was able to answer back for Epsilon. Reepex quickly followed with another goal to level the series at 2-2. Some sloppy defending from Epsilon allowed Cheerio to score again and he was able to take advantage of a great double touch from close range to secure his hat trick. Cheerio was in fine form, scoring his 4th of the match to put the game out of reach and to secure Endpoint a 3-0 series win.

EnVyUs v exceL

EnVy had bought in world champion Remkoe for this match against exceL. All three players scored in the opening game to grab a 1-0 series lead. Friis opened the scoring once again and the boys in blue were up 3-0 within 60 seconds. Remkoe added a fourth, taking advantage of some gaps in the exceL defence. Lunation and Nielskoek were able to get their names on the scoresheet but it wasn't enough as EnVy raced into a 2-0 lead.

The Boys In Blue secured the opening goal once again but exceL managed to answer back with a goal to tie up the game. However, Remkoe's superior dribbling skills gave EnVy a 2-1 lead. A crafty chip over the oncoming defender from Mout extended EnVy's lead and another goal from the EnVy player wrapped the game up 4-1, securing the series 3-0.

Infused v Prophecy

In the final game of the day, an undefeated Infused would face Prophecy in what was an amazing match. A very back and forth opening to the first game eventually worked in favour of Flarke, who was able to dribble the ball into the goal to open the scoring for Proph. Sniper worked his way into a nice position to give Prophecy a 2-0 lead. Infused managed to respond thanks to a nice cross from Sebadam, which enabled Doomsee a clean shot on goal. But Flarke grabbed himself another goal for Prophecy to take the game 3-1 and a surprise 1-0 lead.

Assisted by a great pass from Doomsee, EyeIgnite opened the second game with a great goal. Doomsee quickly followed up with a goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Prophecy weren't out of the game just yet. Mummisnow broke through the Infused defence to close the gap but Doomsee began to run away with the game. Two goals in succession for the Infused captain sealed a 4-1 win and levelled the series at 1-1.

A frantic beginning to the third game saw both teams level at 2-2 within a matter of minutes. Another great pass from Doomsee set up EyeIgnite for the winning goal. A 3-2 win for Infused mean they only needed to win the next game to remain undefeated.

An early goal from kick off for Prophecy gave them the advantage in game four. Mummisnow pulled off some great manoeuvres to extend their lead but some poor defending gifted Doomsee a goal and put Infused right back in the game.

Doomsee was running on all cylinders after that first goal. An equaliser with just six seconds on the clock sent the game to overtime where Sebadam secured the winner to give Infused a 3-1 win. The red army remains undefeated!
