COD League Season 2 Moving To PC, Bringing Cross-Play To Challengers

CDL Season 2 has kicked off, and there's a sizeable change for fans of the Call of Duty esports competition.

That's because the organisers are ditching the PS4 and will now be playing on PC exclusively for the new season.

CDL Moves To PC Setup, Requires Approved Controllers

The key thing of note is that all pros will be required to use a "League-approved controller of their choice".

That means you can presumably still use a Dualshock if you'd prefer, but you can also use an Xbox Controller or a third-party option, provided it's pre-approved.

A new blog post explained the change:

"As part of this transition, Call of Duty League competition will maintain exclusive use of controllers for the upcoming season."

"This change provides players with expanded choice of controller, allowing them to select the League-approved controller style that works best for their game. More details and rules pertaining to peripherals will be released at a future date."

That's not the only change coming, either.

For the first time in the franchise's esports history, players will be able to jump into the Call of Duty Challengers series on any platform, as long as they're using controllers.

Thanks to cross-play, you'll be able to play on your platform of choice. 

"Any LAN Challengers event that takes place during the season will be played on PC. Competitors may plug in their League-approved controller of choice", the blog explains.

"More information on changes to Challengers, including rules, regulations, and how the League will monitor competition, will be revealed in the coming weeks."

Moving away from PlayStation 4 is an interesting move, as Activision and Sony have maintained a partnership for the marketing of the Call of Duty franchise since the start of this console generation.
