Call of Duty League 2021: What Is Next For OpTic Gaming?

On November 6th, it was revealed that North American esports organisation 100 Thieves would be entering the Call of Duty League after acquiring the second Los Angeles slot.

While many fans were excited about the organisation and founder Matt “Nadeshot” Haag returning to Call of Duty esports, others expressed their concern surrounding the franchise that the LA Thieves had replaced, OpTic Gaming Los Angeles.

It was revealed that Green Wall founder Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez had bought back the OpTic Gaming brand from Immortals, which ultimately led to the sale of the CDL slot to long-time friend Nadeshot.

With 100T now in the CDL, the iconic OpTic Gaming brand is gone from Call of Duty esports. So, what’s next for the Green Wall?

The Chicago OpTic

The likelihood of Hector relinquishing control of the LA franchise slot without the possibility of bringing the OpTic brand back to Chicago would be very slim.

With such a storied history in competitive Call of Duty, the possibility of rebranding the Chicago Huntsmen franchise into the Chicago OpTic could well happen.

Considering the number of former OpTic players and content creators that are now under the NRG and Huntsmen banners, this move would make a lot of sense and would see perhaps the most synonymous Call of Duty organisation live on in some capacity.

Will It Happen?

With little time before the 2021 CDL season is expected to get underway, it’s unlikely that a rebrand will happen in time.

A rebrand could well be on the cards ahead of the 2022 season, when the CDL is intending on expanding the league, bringing in new teams. That would be the perfect time for the Huntsmen to transition back into the Green Wall that so many fans have supported throughout the years.

Before any form of rebranding takes place, it must be approved by the league so there is always a chance that OpTic Gaming Los Angeles could be the final time we see the brand involved in the CDL…

Whether or not the brand returns to the highest level of competitive CoD, the OpTic brand is back in the rightful hands of Rodriguez who will be intent on making the best decision.
