Apex Legends Developer Shuts Down Idea of Quads and Solos!

This past week, the Apex Universe moved to a brand new map called 'Olympus'.

Now, players all over the world are jumping into the brand new season and map and are chipping away at the battle pass.

Apex is one of the most unique battle royales, as it only features two game modes at the moments.

Trios and Duos have been at the core of the game for much of its longevity, and players have wondered if they are ever going to expand.

A new comment by a developer has shut down the idea of Quads and Solos it appears.

Let's take a look!

Chaos

During a Reddit thread, one of the Apex Legends developers who goes by the alias 'MonsterClip' commented on the possibility of Quads or even Solos in Apex.

They noted multiple reasons why Quads will not work within Apex and explained that "trios is the magic number".

We don't have any plans to release Quads. We needed to decide this early on in testing. Trios is the magic number for us. That's when the legend composition really shines and the X-Men vs Avengers fantasy starts to shine through. When you play Quads, which we tested early on, the combat becomes nearly untrackable. It's chaotic in a negative way.

This wouldn't be a total deterrent for a limited time mode if the rest of the game wasn't designed around Trios. Our lobby, for example, is designed for 3 people. Our loot distribution is designed for 3 people per squad. Even something like the banners placed around the map don't have room for a 4th. These are all technically solvable problems with enough effort, but because we feel that Trios is the sweet spot we aren't pursuing Quads currently.

This of course, upset some fans as Quads appears to be a pretty standard game mode among battle royales.

Fortnite and Warzone have kept the core four game modes present for the most part at all times over the last year, as different players are going to have different party sizes.

MonsterClip also commented on the notion of Solos even being added; we have seen this game mode before in Apex, albeit for a limited time.

"One solution we want to implement is No Fill. We think this will give lone wolves the ability to get in there and complete challenges, get some kills and generally show off their skills without disrupting other people's games.

There are some more creative solutions we're exploring that I don't want to say just yet, but it won't be Solos. We are a team game."

So, for now it appears Apex is stuck being Trios or Duos; an interesting choice for sure.
