
Esports has taken a giant leap forward today, as Intel have teamed up with the International Olympic Committee, to create the Intel World Open; featuing Rocket League and Street Fighter V. This means that esports will get its first chance at being associated with the Olympics, something that has been a widely discussed topic for a number of years. The 2020 Olympics will take place in Tokyo Japan, with this esports competition commencing in the lead up.
Previously Intel and the IOC teamed up to hold the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) PyeongChang ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea - this competition focused on Starcraft II and was only streamed to viewers.
Rocket League And Street Fighter V At The Olympics
The Intel World Open will feature Rocket League and Street Fighter V, Psyonix/Epic Games and Capcom will work in partnership to bring this competition to Tokyo. Both publishers will be putting $250,000 towards the prize pool.

Location And Dates
The event will take place in the lead up to the 2020 Olympics, on the 22nd-24th July 2020 (the Olympics begin on the 24th July). It will take place at Tokyo's Zepp DiverCity venue.
How Will It Work?
The competition will begin with online qualifiers, where the participating countries can enter for a chance to be named in their national team. A live qualifying event will take place in Katowice, Poland in June. ESL will be handling the production for the World Open.
