Pixar announced a Buzz Lightyear movie called Lightyear and released a meaty debut trailer highlighting some of the space ranger's heroic exploits. We Buzz Lightyear is seen doing his work in space as part of Star Command, similar to the 2000s animated series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, only this is more of an origin story.
Lightyear will tackle Buzz's backstory as a spaceman. Whether Zurg and other notable characters make an appearance is uncertain just yet, but there is a robotic cat that turns its head 360 degrees and a number of other space rangers helping Buzz on his journey.

Chris Evans will bring Buzz to life, and no, this isn't a toys-to-life story. This is the space hero the action figure in Toy Story is based on.
Pixar's Lightyear will be the first time that the animation studio will work on a spinoff of one of their movies. Most of their titles have been original films separate from each other or sequels, but sometimes have cheeky Easter eggs to connect them to each other.
Lightyear doesn't have a firm release date just yet, though Pixar plans to launch it sometime in 2022.
