Binge.com has announced that Greg Russo, best known for writing the Mortal Kombat (2021) screenplay, will both write and direct the live-action System Shock series. Based on Nightdive Studios' acclaimed series, that was first announced last October.
Speaking about this adaptation, Nightdive Studios' CEO Stephen Kick - who also joins the project as executive producer - stated:
I’ve always believed that a live-action adaptation of System Shock would be the perfect medium to retell the harrowing story of Citadel station, and its rogue AI that subjects the crew to unimaginable horror.
Mortal Kombat’s Greg Russo Will Direct System Shock Series
Adding to this further, Binge's chief content officer, Allan Ungar, confirmed:
Greg is a superbly talented screenwriter who possesses an unmatched knowledge and passion for gaming. His artistic approach to storytelling and his deep understanding of the source material will undoubtedly get fans excited about this new franchise. We’re thrilled to be bringing him on board and can’t wait to share his vision with audiences worldwide.
We don't know when this live-action adaptation will air, though if you're looking to try out the series sooner, System Shock: Enhanced Edition and System Shock 2 are available on PC. A remake's currently in development, and we'll keep you informed as we hear more.
