The Lands Between in Elden Ring is a vast map. It offers hours upon hours of endless exploration. There are numerous different areas for you to find, items to collect, creatures to encounter, and bosses to fight. How you choose to approach your adventure is down to you, but there are a few key things that you need to know.
Some items cannot be used as soon as you collect them. For example, Dragon Hearts need to be traded at a specific Church, as they're worthless everywhere else. It's a similar principle with Great Runes. You gain them through defeating main bosses, such as Godrick The Grafted. However, you cannot activate any of the Great Runes unless you are in a Divine Tower.

When you get to a Divine Tower, you can use it to activate any of the Great Runes that you have acquired.
