There are multiple buildings for you to explore across The City in Dying Light 2. You'll explore a few of them as part of the main story. Others, you can go off and explore whenever you feel like it. The buildings that you can explore as a side-mission often have the best loot.

When you're using your binoculars to look around or you're running around Villedor, you may have come across GRE Quarantine Buildings. They're quite easy to spot as they're usually one of the widest buildings in the area. They're also covered in green sheets with a bio-hazard symbol on them. If you're brave enough to step foot inside these buildings, you will be rewarded.

In this guide, we're going to explain more about GRE Buildings, how to complete them, and what kind of loot you can find in them.

All GRE Quarantine Building Locations

Here are all of the GRE Quarantine Buildings across Old Villedor and The Central Loop. You can discover these buildings by running past them as you explore the area or by using your Binoculars.

  • Horseshoe: East of Horseshoe Water Tower - THV Genomics Center
  • The Wharf: GRE Experimental Research
  • Downtown: North East of Pine Windmill - GRE Vaccine Lab

What Are GRE Quarantine Buildings?

When the THV Pandemic started, The City (Villedor) become one of the few places that were looking for a cure for the virus. The GRE set up multiple research centres in the city. It's believed that the buildings still contain some research and dark secrets from the GRE.

It's safe to assume the research buildings became quarantine zones after the experiments continued and cause the outbreak of the variant that ultimately destroyed the world.

Are They a Day or Night Activity?

The GRE Quarantine Buildings are a night activity. During the day, the buildings are filled with swarms of infect (including Volatiles). They make it nearly impossible to get through the building and complete your tasks without dying.

How to Complete GRE Quarantine Buildings

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have enough Immunity Boosters and UV Mushrooms in your inventory. When you are inside the building, your immunity will reduce quickly and you may need to navigate THV chemicals. Having enough immunity-based items in your pockets is important. Also, we recommend going right at the start of a night cycle as it can take you all night to explore everything and get out of there safely.

The next thing you need to do is find the entrance to the building, but it's rarely the front door. You're most likely to find the entrance to a GRE Quarantine Building on the roof. Once you find it, unlock it with your GRE Key. Head inside the building and make your way to the first floor (usually via a ladder going down).

Once you are inside the building, some tasks should appear on the left of your screen. These are the tasks you need to complete in order to complete the entire building. Usually, you need to explore several different floors and areas of the building. You can find your way through the building by following the glowing yellow pipe. Within these floors are GRE Crates with Inhibitors inside them. (Even if they aren't your direct task, collect them. They're too useful to leave behind). Along the way, you will probably come across some infected but they'll be easy to sneak past or fight.

Now, once you've completed your tasks you have a choice to make. If you have enough time left, you can continue to explore the areas to find all of the loot on offer. Some GRE Buildings have small rooms filled with THV Chemicals. Inside these small rooms are crates that you will need to lockpick to open and, sometimes, there are crystals that you can collect.

However, if you don't have much time left before sunrise then we recommend getting out of there. We've found that a good time to leave a Quarantine Building is around 6:30 in the morning. This gives you enough time to get out of there before the Infected start heading back.

Loot Inside a GRE Quarantine Building

The loot that you can find inside a Quarantine Building is the definition of the phrase "the reward is worth the risk". Here's some of the loot we have found while exploring the buildings:

  • Excellent Combat and Parkour Skill Progression
  • High Tier Clothing
  • Immunity Boosters
  • Pigments
  • Crystals
  • Inhibitors
  • Infected Trophies (From killing and looting infected)
  • Collectible Tapes
