Bethesda's just announced a new Horde Mode is coming to DOOM Eternal. After a busy few weeks that's seen Eternal launch on the PS5/Xbox Series X|S - accompanied by some PS5 save issues - and Ancient Gods Part 1 finally launching on Nintendo Switch. id Software's given us a new update.
Speaking in a recent Twitter post, id Software commenting on those recent developments, assuring Switch players that The Ancient Gods Part 2 would arrive "later this year". More notably through, they revealed this single-player Horde Mode is replacing the previously promised Invasion Mode.
DOOM Eternal's Getting A Single-Player Horde Mode
If you weren't aware, Invasion Mode was first announced two years ago, which would've let players randomly invade another player's match as a demon, attempting to kill them. However, that's now been cancelled and id Software offered this statement:
As many are aware, we intended to release a free Invasion Mode update for the game; however, the unforeseen consequences of the pandemic and remote working impacted the progress of development for this addition... With these factors in mind, we have decided to redirect our focus from Invasion Mode to creating a totally new single-player horde mode.
While we don't have a timeframe yet on this Horde Mode update, we'll be sure to keep you informed as we learn more.
